Construction NVQ FAQs FAQs
NVQs (National Vocational Qualifications) are competence-based qualifications awarded on the strength of on-site portfolio evidence rather than classroom exams. In construction they map directly to the CSCS card colour code. The Plant Operations NVQ Level 2 (or above) is the bridge from a Red Trained Operator card to a Blue Competent Operator card under the NOCN Job Cards-administered CPCS scheme, and the same applies to NPORS. Higher-level NVQs underpin the Gold Supervisor and Black Manager CSCS cards. This FAQ section answers the questions we are asked most often about NVQs: which level you need, how on-site assessment works, how long an NVQ takes, the Red-to-Blue card upgrade path, and CITB Levy claim documentation.
