Supervisor Units LA, S1–S5, S7 

This comprehensive 5‑day NRSWA Street Works Supervisor course provides supervisors with the knowledge and confidence to oversee street works safely and in full compliance with the New Roads and Street Works Act. Covering key units including Location & Avoidance of Underground Apparatus (LA), Monitoring Signing, Lighting & Guarding (S1), Monitoring Excavation (S2), Monitoring Reinstatement of Sub‑Base and Base (S3), Monitoring Reinstatement of Bituminous Materials (S4), and Monitoring Footways & Modular Surfaces (S5), the course ensures supervisors understand how to assess site safety, quality, and compliance. Unit S7, covering Monitoring Concrete Surfaces, is also included to complete the supervisory skill set.

Learners develop strong oversight skills through a blend of theory and practical assessment, focusing on identifying hazards, ensuring correct work methods, and maintaining safe environments for operatives and the public.

An optional Hot Lay Asphalt module (Unit S6) is available for those who need to monitor the use of hot bituminous materials.

This course is ideal for anyone responsible for supervising street works teams or renewing their supervisory qualifications to meet current legislation and industry standards.

New Roads & Street Works (NRSWA) training is in line with The New Roads and Street Works Act 1991, which places a duty on any person or organisation undertaking work involving the installation, renewal, maintenance or inspection of underground apparatus in any street or road to ensure that work is under the control of competent persons.

Our internal, fully qualified and occupationally competent assessors work to the HAUC Specifications.

Regulation

Anyone working on the highway should hold a Street Works card although the minimum regulation set is that there must be at least one qualified operative and one supervisor on any active site.

Course Completion 

All successful candidates will leave with a Street Works Certificate and Card along with being registered to the Street Works Qualifications Register (SWQR).

Pre-course Requirements

There are no awarding body pre course requirements however it is strongly recommended that a individual has 18months – 2 year’s experience prior to enrolling for this course.
