Course Overview
The A09 Forward Tipping Dumper course is delivered through a combination of
classroom-based learning and practical training.
The A31 Ride on Roller course is delivered through a combination of classroombased learning and practical training.

Course Structure
A09

• Operate the machine to the relevant standard (depending on level applied
for)
• Fit and operate ancillary equipment
• Site the machine safely and efficiently
• Know which minor adjustments and routine servicing procedures are
necessary, and be able to carry them out
• Prepare the machine for travelling on the public highway
• Understand the capabilities, purposes and limitations of each machine
• Apply all necessary safety precautions
• Understand how diesel engines work and how various parts of the
machine operate.
A31

• All pre-start, running checks and shut down procedures
• Set roller for travel
• Awareness of on-site hazards
• Set the roller for compaction duties
• Place roller in an out of service condition
• Recognise compacted/uncompacted areas
• Conditions that may cause instability of the roller
• Safety procedures when working up to unsupported edges
• Loading and unloading procedures on/off a transporter
