NRSWA / Streetworks FAQs
NRSWA (the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991) is the legislative framework that governs anyone working in or near a UK highway on behalf of a utility or contractor. Operatives and supervisors must hold a current NRSWA Streetworks card, with units covering Cat & Genny (Unit 1), signing, lighting and guarding (Unit 2), and excavation and reinstatement units (3–12) under the Specification for the Reinstatement of Openings in Highways (SROH). This FAQ section answers the questions we are asked most often: who needs NRSWA, the difference between Operative and Supervisor routes, the unit structure, the 5-year renewal cycle, on-site assessment and Streetworks card validity.
