Course Overview
The A09 Forward Tipping Dumper course is delivered through a combination of
classroom-based learning and practical training.
The A31 Ride on Roller course is delivered through a combination of classroombased learning and practical training.

Course Structure
A09

• • Operate the machine to the relevant standard (depending on level applied
• for)
• • Fit and operate ancillary equipment
• • Site the machine safely and efficiently
• • Know which minor adjustments and routine servicing procedures are
• necessary, and be able to carry them out
• • Prepare the machine for travelling on the public highway
• • Understand the capabilities, purposes and limitations of each machine
• • Apply all necessary safety precautions
• • Understand how diesel engines work and how various parts of the
• machine operate.

A31

• • All pre-start, running checks and shut down procedures
• • Set roller for travel
• • Awareness of on-site hazards
• • Set the roller for compaction duties
• • Place roller in an out of service condition
• • Recognise compacted/uncompacted areas
• • Conditions that may cause instability of the roller
• • Safety procedures when working up to unsupported edges
• • Loading and unloading procedures on/off a transporter
   

Course Duration
The level of course required will be determined upon application and
confirmation of an individual’s experience.

Course Completion
Successful candidates will receive a the appropriate CPCS card
